Our Approach

To drive innovative and scalable solutions that advance health equity and address the needs of our communities, the Foundation follows a
multi-levered approach.

Grantmaking

The Elevance Health Foundation partners with national and local nonprofits, innovating scalable programs that reduce health disparities by addressing community needs, with a focus on:

  • Maternal Health/Child Health
  • Food as Medicine
  • Behavioral Health/Substance Use Disorder
  • Community Resiliency and Disaster Relief

The Foundation has recently exceeded its three-year, $90 million commitment. To ensure that we have the best approach to improving the health of the socially vulnerable in our communities, we are currently assessing and refining our strategy.

During this review period, we are not accepting new funding applications. We will launch our next five-year commitment in early 2025. In the coming weeks, please visit our website to learn about our updated approach and new funding opportunities as they become available.

Impact Investing

Launched in mid-2024, our new Impact Investing program is designed to create positive social impact through investment opportunities beyond its traditional grant portfolio. The new program provides loans to small businesses, social enterprises, and entrepreneurs that support health inequity in under-resourced communities. By offering loans with interest rates below prime rates, our Impact Investing partners will address social needs, including access to care, food security, and reduction of health disparities.

Associate Engagement

We support our associates’ engagement with qualified charitable organizations through a range of programs, including Dollars for Dollars, Dollars for Doers, and Elevance Health Volunteer Days.

Community Action Leadership

Elevance Health and the Elevance Health Foundation have a significant role and responsibility in helping identify solutions to the problems challenging our country’s health. Our new Community Action Leadership initiative will bring together health experts and social leaders to address large-scale community health needs. Collectively, they will redefine philanthropy’s role in addressing these needs and will incentivize action for change.
